The SPAT project is aimed at educating people living with a disability in developing countries as professional sports trainers.<\/span><\/h2>

Welcome to the SPAT project!<\/span><\/h2>[vc_column_text text_align=”center” css=”.vc_custom_1610430218001{padding-bottom: 2% !important;}”]SPAT stands for Sport and Physical Activity Trainer<\/em>\u00a0and is aimed at training people with a disability as a sports instructor in developing countries. The project has been active in Ethiopia since 2009, where it has had a huge impact on the lives of a whole generation of children with a disability. In 2019 the project was also introduced in Kenya, where it is specifically aimed at Deaf people.<\/p>\n

The project is supported by several organizations who work together to sustain and expand the project.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”15px”]

Ethiopia<\/span><\/h2>[vc_column_text]The SPAT project is carried out in Ethiopia since 2009 in schools for children with a disability, as well as rehabilitation centers around Addis Ababa. SPAT partners locally with Dires for Development Charitable Association<\/em>, an Ethiopian NGO that strives to combat poverty and ensure equality for those with a disability.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”15px”]

Kenya<\/span><\/h2>[vc_column_text]In Kenya, the SPAT project is concentrated in the Southeastern Kwale region. It is centered at the Kwale Deaf Centre, a local community project for Deaf people, set up in 2017 by the Umoja Foundation out of The Netherlands.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”15px”]

Group trips and volunteering<\/span><\/h2>[vc_column_text text_align=”center”]You can visit the SPAT project in Ethiopia or Kenya and contribute to its ongoing operations and development, we frequently organize project tours for groups and individuals. For example tours for school groups from 10-14 days, or internships \/ volunteering work of 2-4 months.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”15px”]
